PRB: TTM_SETTOOLINFO Does Not Subclass

Last reviewed: July 31, 1996

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Win32 Software Development Kit (SDK), version 4.0

SYMPTOMS

When sending a ToolTip control a TTM_SETTOOLINFO message with the TTF_SUBCLASS flag set, the ToolTip will not subclass the specified window.

CAUSE

When it receives the TTM_SETTOOLINFO message, the ToolTip control does not check the TTF_SUBCLASS flag and never attempts to subclass the window. If the window is already subclassed, it will remain subclassed after sending the TTM_SETTOOLINFO message.

RESOLUTION

To have the ToolTip subclass a window, you must use the TTM_ADDTOOL message. If you need to change some tool information for a subclassed window, the existing window will remain subclassed.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
