PRB: Incorrect IME Char Conversion in US Office 97 or Exchange

Last reviewed: January 9, 1998
Article ID: Q179142
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0

SYMPTOMS

After you install the US version of Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Office 97 on machine that also has Japanese Windows NT 4.0, the Input Method Editor (IME) in the RichEditControl application behaves incorrectly. The characters do not convert on top of the cursor, and the character conversion is done at the bottom left corner of the Window. Also, sometimes, only half of the double-byte character appears on screen.

CAUSE

The setup for US version of Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Office 97 replaced the Japanese Riched32.dll with English version.

RESOLUTION

Replace the file riched32.dll with the Japanese version.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
