File Manager Error: "Directory Does Not Exist"

SYMPTOMS

You may receive the following error message when you attempt to rename a file on a floppy disk using Windows 3.1 or 3.11 File Manager or Windows for Workgroups 3.1 File Manager:

   Directory A: does not exist. Do you want to create it?

CAUSE

This error message can occur if the floppy disk is write protected. Remove the write protection from the floppy disk and try the operation again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in version 3.1 of Windows and Windows for Workgroups. This problem does not occur in later versions of Windows for Workgroups.
