The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows for Workgroups version 3.11
The disk included with Application Note WG1129, "Updated Files from the
Windows NT Server Version 3.5 CD-ROM," contains six updated Windows for
Workgroups 3.11 files that are shipped on the CD-ROM version of Microsoft
Windows NT Server 3.5. These updated files provide several improvements.

Introduction
The WG1129 disk included with this Application Note contains six
updated Windows for Workgroups 3.11 files that are shipped on the
CD-ROM version of Microsoft Windows NT Server 3.5. These updated files
provide the following improvements:
- Support for named pipes over direct host IPX
- Performance enhancements to direct host IPX
- A patch to prevent browse masters from synchronizing and announcing
simultaneously
- Changes to allow Windows NT remote administrators to work on
Windows for Workgroups
- Changes to allow browsing of Windows NT workgroups outside a subnet
- Changes to allow Windows NT 3.5 servers to screen out older Windows
for Workgroups clients trying to connect through direct host IPX
To install the updated files
- If you received a disk with this Application Note, insert the disk
in the appropriate floppy disk drive.
If you downloaded this Application Note from an online service,
skip to step 2. This procedure assumes that you have already
downloaded and extracted the compressed file.
- At the MS-DOS command prompt, type the following and press ENTER
copy <source>:\net.exe <location>
where <source> is either the letter of your floppy disk drive or
the directory containing the file you downloaded from online
services, and <location> is the path to your Windows directory. For
example, if you are installing from a floppy disk that you inserted
in drive A, and C:\WINDOWS is the path to your Windows directory:
copy a:\net.exe c:\windows
Or, for example, if you downloaded the WG1129.EXE file from online
services to C:\DOWNLOAD and C:WINDOWS is the path to your Windows
directory:
copy c:\download\net.exe c:\windows
- Copy the remaining five files to the Windows SYSTEM subdirectory
one at a time. For example, type the following commands and press
ENTER after each one:
copy a:\ndis.386 c:\windows\system
copy a:\netapi.dll c:\windows\system
copy a:\nwnblink.386 c:\windows\system
copy a:\vnetsup.386 c:\windows\system
copy a:\vredir.386 c:\windows\system
