The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows for Workgroups version 3.11

SYMPTOMS

When you use a U.S. Robotics 14,400 Sportster modem with Microsoft At Work Fax to send a fax to a Group 3 fax machine, the modem may either successfully dial out but fail to make a connection or successfully negotiate the connection but fail to transmit the fax. A successful connection but failed fax transmission will cause the fax message to appear in the sender's Inbox marked as undeliverable mail.

RESOLUTION

In order to use the U.S. Robotics 14,400 Sportster modem to send faxes with At Work Fax, you need to obtain updated At Work Fax files and an updated SERIAL.386 driver. To get these files, obtain the WG0992.EXE (At Work Fax) and WG1001.EXE (SERIAL.386) files as described later in this article.

You also need to add the following lines to the [COMx] section (where "x" is the number of the COM port the modem is using) of the EFAXPUMP.INI file:

   FixModemClass=1
   EnableV17Send=1
   EnableV17Recv=1
   SetupCommand=AT&F&H2&I2S36=0

Refer to your U.S. Robotics manual for information about the AT commands and S-register settings in the SetupCommand line.
