Conflict Using ALR VEISA with PS/2 Mouse and HIMEM.SYS

SYMPTOMS

If you have an ALR VEISA 386 or 486 VEISA machine with a mouse connected to the PS/2 mouse port and you use the HIMEM.SYS file (version 2.6) shipped with Windows 3.0, you may notice that your mouse pointer stops responding (freezes) in Lotus 3.1 at the MS-DOS level (that is, not in a Windows virtual machine. The mouse works correctly in Windows.

CAUSE

ALR has confirmed this to be a problem in its 386 and 486 VEISA machines. ALR is researching the problem.

WORKAROUND

Use a serial mouse.
