SUMMARY
Although the CGA video mode is not fully supported with Microsoft Windows
3.1, there is a workaround to allow an option for the CGA video driver
during a network workstation installation (SETUP /N).
The CGA video driver files can be obtained either from the original
Windows 3.0 disks or from the Windows Driver Library (WDL). Once the
following steps have been completed, CGA video can be selected from
the Other selection in the Display option during setup.

STEPS FOR A CGA VIDEO OPTION WITH A NETWORK INSTALLATION
- Create a directory named CGA in the shared Windows directory.
- If the WDL files are being used, go to step number 6; otherwise,
copy the SETUP.INF file from the Windows 3.0 Disk 1 to the CGA
directory.
- Rename SETUP.INF in the CGA subdirectory to OEMSETUP.INF.
- Expand and copy the following Windows files to the CGA
subdirectory. Note: The files are located on different disks for
Windows 3.0 and 3.0a; check the file dates on your Windows disks
and compare the file dates to those listed below.

- After you have copied the files, go to step 7; step 6 is for people
copying files from the WDL.
- Copy CGA.EXE from the WDL into the CGA subdirectory and run it by
typing "cga" (without the quotation marks) at the MS-DOS command
prompt. This automatically expands the necessary files.
- Run the SETUP /N command from a workstation. When the System
Information screen is displayed, choose Display using the arrow
keys and press the ENTER key.
- Choose Other and press the ENTER key.
- When prompted for the location of the files for the driver, enter
the path to the shared windows directory on the network and CGA
subdirectory. For example:
n:\programs\win31\cga
- Select CGA from the list of video drivers. This installs CGA as the
video driver on the workstation.
