Windows for Workgroups Stops Responding (Hangs) During Login

SYMPTOMS

If you log on with a user name that is 20 characters long, the system stops responding (hangs) after you are prompted to confirm your logon password. If your user name is 19 character or less, this problem does not occur. If you use a 21-character user name, you receive error 7206. This problem occurs only when you are running Windows for Workgroups or Workgroup Connections and you logon from MS-DOS.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows for Workgroups version 3.1. This problem was corrected in Windows for Workgroups version 3.11.
