No Error Message Associating Incompatible File Type with Paint

SYMPTOMS

When you try to associate a file extension with Paint in Windows 95, nothing happens and the file type is not associated with Paint.

CAUSE

The file type that you are trying to associate with Paint is not compatible with Paint and Paint cannot open the file.

STATUS

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

When you try to associate incompatible file types with other programs, you receive the following error message:

   The filename is not valid.
   The file must have the extension <.XXX>

This error message does not occur when you try to associate an incompatible file type with Paint.
