SYMPTOMS

If you have a shortcut to a printer on your desktop, and you send a copy of the shortcut to someone else, the shortcut may not work from the other person's computer.

CAUSE

Shortcuts that you create from your Printers folder work only on your computer.

RESOLUTION

To create a printer shortcut that other people can use on their computers, follow these steps:

  1. Find the print server in Network Neighborhood.

  2. Double-click the print server to view its resources.

  3. Use the right mouse button to click the shared printer icon, then click Create Shortcut on the menu that appears.

You can share printer shortcuts created with this method with other people.
