Warm Undocking Causes Errors While MS Exchange is Running

SYMPTOMS

When you perform a warm undocking operation for a portable computer docked to a main computer that is connected to a network and is running Microsoft Exchange Mail Client, the computer seems to stop responding (hangs), generates a general protection fault, or generates another type of fatal error.

CAUSE

The Microsoft Exchange Mail Client does not handle dynamic hardware correctly and may generate errors when you perform docking operation.

RESOLUTION

Close Microsoft Exchange, perform the docking operation, and then restart Microsoft Exchange.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 95. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
