Microsoft Font Assistant Cannot Find TrueType Fonts

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Office for Windows, version 4.3
  • Microsoft Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Office version 4.3, the Font Assistant tool does not recognize that there are any TrueType fonts installed.

CAUSE

Font Assistant checks for fonts in the [Fonts] section of the Win.ini file. Windows 95 does not use the [Fonts] section of the Win.ini file to store font entries; it uses registry entries instead.

MORE INFORMATION

To install TrueType fonts in Windows 95, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click the Fonts folder.

  3. On the File menu, click Install New Font.

  4. Select the drive and folder containing the new fonts, and then click the fonts in the List Of Fonts box.

  5. Click OK.

Note that the steps in this section describe only how to install TrueType fonts in Windows 95. Using this method to install TrueType fonts does not make them visible in Font Assistant.
