The information in this article applies to:
SUMMARY
This article describes how to use HyperTerminal to dial into the Microsoft
Download Service (MSDL). This article assumes that you have already
installed HyperTerminal and your modem properly.
MORE INFORMATION
- Click the Start button, point to Programs, point to Accessories,
and then click HyperTerminal.
- If you have not used HyperTerminal before, go to step 4.
- Double-click the Hypertrm.exe file to Start HyperTerminal.
- In the Name box, type "MSDL" (without quotation marks). In the Icon
box, click any icon, and then click OK.
- In the Country Code box, click "United States of America (1)." In the
Area Code box, type "425" (without quotation marks). In the Phone
Number box, type "936-6735" (without quotation marks).
- In the Connect Using box, click the modem you want to use to connect
to MSDL, and then click OK.
- To dial into MSDL now, click Dial. To change the phone number, click
Modify. To change dialing properties (such as the number used to
access an outside line, disable call waiting, or configure a calling
card), click Dialing Properties.
- When you close HyperTerminal, you are prompted to save the connection.
If you click Yes, an icon is created that you can double-click to
connect to MSDL later.
NOTE: To use HyperTerminal to connect to the Microsoft Support File
Exchange (MSFE), follow the same steps decribed above only substitute
'MSFE' for 'MSDL.' And use the MSFE phone number, 425 704-4300, in place
of the MSDL phone number, 425 936-6735.
