Error Message: Cannot Find Enable.vxd

SYMPTOMS

When you start Windows 95, you may receive the following error message:

   Cannot find a device file that may be needed to
   run Windows or a Windows application.

   C:\windows\system\enable.vxd

When you press any key, Windows 95 seems to run normally.

CAUSE

The Windows Accessibility driver (Enable.vxd) is damaged or missing.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these following steps:

  1. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.

  2. Click the Windows Setup tab.

  3. Click the Accessibility Options check box to clear it.

  4. Click OK and restart the computer when requested.
