SYMPTOMS

When you start your computer, you may receive the following error message:

   <drive letter>:\ is not accessible. The device is not ready.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you restart your computer without closing a Windows Explorer or My Computer window that is displaying the contents of a floppy disk drive if the floppy disk has been removed. The error message occurs when Windows 95 attempts to reopen the window to display the contents of the floppy disk.

RESOLUTION

To prevent this error message, close the Windows Explorer or My Computer window displaying the contents of the floppy disk before you restart your computer.
