The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you are running certain localized non-English versions of Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2) or OEM Service Release version 2.1 (OSR2.1), attempting to use Direct Cable Connection to connect two computers may not work. You may receive an error message stating that the port is not available.
CAUSEThis problem is known to occur with the following localized versions of Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 and 2.1:
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in OSR2 and OSR2.1. An update to address this problem is now available, but is not fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft does not recommend implementing this update at this time. Contact the vendor of your OEM version of Windows 95 for an update, or contact Microsoft Technical Support for additional information about the availability of this update.
MORE INFORMATIONThis problem may occur regardless of the cabling type used (null-modem serial cable or bi-direction parallel cable). Other than the update referenced above, there is no known workaround to this problem.
