SYMPTOMS

When you update an existing device driver in Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2) using Device Manager, the new driver files may not be copied from the source disk or folder. The existing files in the OSR2 installation may be copied instead.

CAUSE

There is a problem in OSR2 that prevents driver files from being copied from a new installation source if the same files already exist in the original installation source.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2). An update to address this problem is now available, but is not fully regression tested and should be applied only to computers experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft does not recommend implementing this update at this time. To obtain this update, contact the vendor of your OEM version of Windows, or contact Microsoft Technical Support for additional information about the availability of this update.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem does not occur in Windows 95 retail release or OEM Service Release 1.
