SYMPTOMS

When you try to use Network Device Interface Specification (NDIS) miniport network adapter drivers on a Windows 95-based computer, programs using multicast networking may be unable to register multiple multicast addresses for the network adapter.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows 95 OEM Service Release version 1. An update to address this problem is now available, but is not fully regression-tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft does not recommend implementing this update at this time. Contact Microsoft Technical Support for additional information about the availability of this update.

MORE INFORMATION

A multicast address is associated with a group of network nodes or stations. Packets sent to a multicast address are expected to be received by all stations on the network segment or ring that have the specified multicast address registered.
