SYMPTOMSWhen you use the Add New Hardware wizard to add hardware to your configuration, you may receive the following error message:
Setupx.dll caused a general protection fault in module krnl386.exeWhen this occurs, the installation of the new hardware stops.
CAUSEThe Setupx.dll file, among other things, builds and maintains the Drvidx.bin file. The local memory heap may be damaged when this file is generated. This damage causes the general protection (GP) fault in Krnl386.exe.
RESOLUTIONObtain the following fix from Microsoft:
Setupx.dll version 4.00.951 (date 12/02/97) and later STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows 95. A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix. Contact Microsoft Technical Support for more information.
