OSR2.5 is version 950C of Windows 95. An Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Service Release is an updated version of a product for personal computer (PC) manufacturers to preinstall on new PCs.

OSR2.5 is Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 with integrated Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 Setup, and updated online services clients. The purpose of OSR2.5 is to allow PC manufacturers to install an integrated Windows 95 product that contains the latest available individual updates.

NOTE: You cannot upgrade earlier versions of Windows 95 or Windows 3.1 with Windows 95 OSR2.5.

Internet Explorer version 4.01 and the individual updates that are widely applicable to a general audience are available for free download from Microsoft. The updated online services clients are available from the respective online service provider.

Microsoft reserves the right to revise and change these plans without notice.

Support Boundaries

OSR2.5 is an OEM product. There is no free support for this product from Microsoft. Customers may be able to obtain some amount of free support from their OEM. Microsoft offers only fee-based support for this product.

Any modifications made to OSR2.5 by the OEM will not be supported by Microsoft.

Microsoft Technical Support Desktop Systems does not support OEMs, or OEM Preinstallation Kit (OPK) issues. OEMs are supported at an OEM account level only.

Microsoft Premier Desktop Systems supports the full functionality and usability of OSR2.5 as shipped by Microsoft to the OEM. Any modifications made to Windows 95 OSR2.5 by the OEM will be supported by the OEM. Installation of OSR2.5 is supported by Microsoft OEM support at an OEM level. On a best-effort basis, Premier Desktop Systems supports the installation of OSR2.5 as a troubleshooting step. Batch installations and network installation are not supported by OSR2.5 and are not supported by Premier Desktop Systems Technical Support.

Enhancements

This release contains updated components such as Internet Explorer, the online services, and some updates that have been released since OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2) was released.

This release contains all of the updated components of Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2.1 (OSR2.1), and the following additions:

  • Internet Explorer 4.01 shell
  • Microsoft Virtual Machine (VM) for Java
  • Microsoft Wallet
  • Microsoft NetShow
  • Microsoft FrontPage Express
  • Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard
  • Microsoft Chat
  • Microsoft Outlook Express
  • Internet Connection Wizard
  • Microsoft NetMeeting 2.1

Updated Online Services:
  • America Online
  • AT&T
  • CompuServe
  • The Microsoft Network
  • Prodigy
  • and several international clients

DirectX:
  • DirectX 5 OPK, which can be optionally preinstalled by the OEM.

Universal Serial Bus (USB) Supplement (also known as OSR2.1):
  • The USB Supplement can be optionally preinstalled by the OEM.

Updates:
  • One core file update for Intel Pentium II processors (CPUs)
  • and international-specific updates
