MFX Draw: Changes for Remote Printer Settings Blocked by NTLast reviewed: March 25, 1997Article ID: Q102719 |

SYMPTOMSYou cannot change printer settings using Micrografx Draw.
CAUSEMicrografx Draw attempts to make printer changes, such as paper orientation and other settings, for all users of the printer, not just for Draw Plus users. To make sure that one user's changes to the printer configuration do not affect all users, Windows NT blocks the application programming interface (API) call that Micrografx Draw uses to execute a universal change, unless the user has NT administrative privileges. Other Windows-based applications (such as Ami Pro, CorelDRAW, PageMaker, and so forth) do not attempt universal changes; thus, printing functions are not affected when you use NT.
RESOLUTIONUsers cannot run Micrografx Draw, or any other application that behaves similarly, without administrative access to the remote shared printer. NOTE: Widespread access to the remote shared printer is not a recommended solution. When administrative privileges are too common in a system, the environment loses its security. The following products are manufactured by vendors independent of Microsoft: PageMaker by Aldus Corporation; CorelDRAW by Corel Corporation; Ami Pro by Lotus Development Corporation; and Micrografx Draw by Micrografx, Inc. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding these products' performance or reliability.
