The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1

SYMPTOMS

If Dr.Watson is running and you press the F1 key for Help while you are in a virtual MS-DOS machine (VDM), Dr. Watson for Windows NT Help displays instead.

CAUSE

Dr. Watson traps the F1 keystroke and displays its Help file when the F1 key is pressed. This will occur even if the foreground application uses the F1 key to display its Help. The foreground application's Help screen will be displayed and then Dr. Watson's Help screen will be displayed on top of it.

RESOLUTION

To view the foreground application's Help screen, close the Dr. Watson Help screen.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.1 and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
