The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSIf you paste a 256-color image, such as a scanned image, into Windows NT Paintbrush from the Clipboard, Paintbrush may not save the image correctly to disk. The image appears correctly in Paintbrush, but when you save the image and reopen it, it may appear as if it were translated into a 16-color image or it may appear solid black.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.1 and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

Steps to Reproduce Problem
This problem occurs only with 256-color images that are copied to the Clipboard and then pasted into Paintbrush.
