The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSCertain commands, run from Windows NT Command Prompt, reset your custom settings. For example, if you start COMMAND.COM (the MS-DOS command interpreter) or another MS-DOS-based application, custom settings, like rows, columns, and colors, are reset.
Steps to Reproduce Problem
CAUSEWhen Command Prompt starts an MS-DOS-based application, it adopts the default MS-DOS screen settings.
RESOLUTIONTo restore your custom settings, restart Command Prompt or exit the MS-DOS-based application. NOTE: If you start the 16-bit application (Command or other) with the Start command, your custom settings are preserved.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.1 and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
