The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSAfter removing a service like TCP/IP using the Network portion of Control Panel, when you restart your system, you get several error messages logged in the event log.
CAUSEThe Network portion of Control Panel does not remove dependent services when you remove a particular service. Because these services cannot find the service they depend on, they generate error messages.
RESOLUTIONRemove all dependent services. If you are not sure which ones are dependent, note the ones that generate error messages or fail to start.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
