The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSA Windows NT computer that is in a workgroup with other Windows NT computers or Windows for Workgroups computers (and not in a LAN Manager domain) may not be able to browse servers in some LAN Manager domains even though they may be on the same network segment. A LAN Manager domain that does not contain any Windows NT computers will not appear on the browse lists unless it is specified as an "Other Domain" (without quotation marks) through the Control Panel, Networks option in the Computer Browser service configuration. However, the computer browser service can only be configured in Windows NT Advanced Server.
RESOLUTIONUse one of the following methods to workaround this problem: Make a new domain using a Windows NT Advanced Server as the primary domain controller and specify the LAN Manager domains as "Other Domain" through the Control Panel, Networks option in the Computer Browser configuration of Windows NT Advanced Server. Then add the Windows NT workstations to this domain.
-or-Even though the LAN Manager domains are not visible in the browse list, connections can be forced to computers in those domains by using their server name (\\<Server name>\<Share name>) in the Path line of the Connect Network Drive dialog box in File Manager.
-or-Add at least one Windows NT workstation to each LAN Manager domain. For additional information on browsing issues with Windows NT, query on the following words in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
