Err Msg: File Manager Cannot Create Directory

SYMPTOMS

If you try to create a directory or subdirectory in File Manager whose total path from the root, including backslashes (\), will be longer that 245 characters, you will receive the following error message:

   File Manager cannot create directory. The filename or extension is
   too long.

You will not be able create the directory.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
