The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1

SYMPTOMS

When you install Links, The Challenge of Golf, in Windows NT 3.1, you will receive the following error message:

An application has attempted to directly access the hard disk, which
cannot be supported. This may cause the application to function
   incorrectly.

WORKAROUND

The two choices at this point are to Terminate and Ignore. If you choose Ignore, Windows NT allows Links to complete its setup routine.

Links may freeze on the first swing of the first hole. To correct this problem, start the Links program but don't choose the Start Game option. Select the System menu option from the initial Links screen. Turn off the sound options for Commentary, Wildlife, and All Other Sounds. Choose Exit and then select the Start option from the Links menu screen. Links should function properly after these changes are made.
