Cannot Backup Files Remotely with No File Permissions

SYMPTOMS

Cannot use Backup to back up a remote directory.

CAUSE

When you use NTBACKUP over the network to back up a directory on a remote target machine, the local operator must have read access to the files and directories on the remote target system. Backup Operator privileges do not give the backup operator access to remote files.

This problem is caused by some problems in the following files:

   NTOSKRNL.EXE
   SRV.SYS
   RDR.SYS

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. This problem was corrected in the latest US Service Pack for Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server.
