Adaptec 1740/1742 May Require BIOS Version 1.4

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to set up Windows NT 3.1 on a SCSI hard disk drive chained off of an Adaptec 1740/1742 SCSI host adapter, you may receive the following error message:

   Disk I/O Error Status=00008000

This error message occurs after the following message is displayed:

   NTDETECT Version 1.0 Checking Hardware...

NOTE: This problem may also occur when you use an Adaptec 2740 SCSI host adapter.

STATUS

According to Adaptec, you must upgrade the BIOS to version 1.4. To order this BIOS revision, call Adaptec Product Fulfillment at (800) 442-7274.
