File Manager Error Copying Large Number of Files

SYMPTOMS

If you have a directory with a large number of files (for example, 6500) and then you attempt to delete or move or copy these files, you will receive an application error in File Manager. This causes Dr. Watson to make a log.

RESOLUTION

You can work around this problem by performing operations from the command line.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
