The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you continuously send print jobs, refreshing the print queue, and occasionally log off and log back on with an account that has a mandatory profile, Print Manager stops repainting itself. When the server gets into this state, the Server service stops responding and the following message may appear when you attempt to stop the server:
The service cannot be controlled in its present state. CAUSEThe cause of this problem is that the Windows NT redirector gets in a deadlock condition when two similar requests are being processed at the same time.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. A supported fix is now available, but is not fully regression-tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the service pack release containing this fix. Contact Microsoft Product Support Services for more information.
