WINMSD Reports MIPS R4400 Processor Chip As R4000

SYMPTOMS

If you run Windows NT or Windows NT Advanced Server on a machine that uses the MIPS R4400 processor, WINMSD.EXE (the Windows NT Diagnostic Utility) reports the CPU type as a MIPS R4000.

CAUSE

The cause is under investigation.

RESOLUTION

There is no resolution available at this time. This affects only how WINMSD detects the MIPS R4400: it does not affect performance or how Windows NT uses the processor.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
