Error Message with Compaq Smart SCSI

SYMPTOMS

When you run Windows NT on a Compaq machine using the SmartSCSI drive array, and you your hard disk drive four gigabyte or larger and formatted for Windows NT file system (NTFS), the following error message appears:

   Error writing to HarddiskX/partitionY/$mft. Some data may be lost.

where X and Y reflect the hard disk and NTFS partition.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT Workstation and Windows NT Server version 3.5. This problem was corrected in the latest U.S. Service Pack for Windows NT version 3.5. For information on obtaining the Service Pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):
