SYMPTOMSWhen you perform a quick format (FORMAT <Drive>: /Q) on a write-protected floppy disk from the Windows NT Command Prompt (CMD.EXE), the following message appears and requests the volume label for the floppy disk:
Format complete. Volume label (11 characters, ENTER for none)?After you enter the volume label, the following error messages appear:
Cannot write boot sector. Cannot format. This media is write protected. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.5. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
