Unclear Error Appears When Saving Notepad File On NTFS Drive

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to save a file in Notepad to an NTFS drive with low disk space, the following error message appears:

   <file name>
   The above file name is invalid.

NOTE: This error message is unclear. On a FAT drive with low disk space, the message "There is not enough space on the disk" appears.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.51. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
