SYMPTOMS

When you create a new global group and set it to be the Primary Group, and you then set the Primary Group to be the only group for a new user, the following problem can occur. If you enable the "User Must Change Password at Next Logon" option, the new user is not prompted for the password change. This problem only occurs once (on the new user's first logon), and only with new users that are created after the new group is created.

RESOLUTION

After initially logging on, the user should manually select the "User Must Change Password at Next Logon" option. The next time the user attempts to log on, the user will be prompted for a password change.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT Workstation and Server versions 3.51 and 4.0.
