SYMPTOMSSome models of the IBM ThinkPad use a model 30 style floppy disk drive. The drive may have read, write, and/or media change problems. CAUSE NTDetect.com does not properly detect the Model Byte and Sub-Model Byte of the IBM ThinkPad. The following models are affected and require an updated NTDetect.com for proper floppy disk drive operation:

STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.51. This problem was corrected in the latest Windows NT 3.51 U.S. Service Pack. For information on obtaining the Service Pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):
