SYMPTOMSAfter you disable the use of DNS for Windows name resolution, you may find that DNS is still used to resolve names with more than 15 characters or names that contain a '.' (period).
RESOLUTIONPerform the following steps to successfully disable the use of DNS for Windows name resolution:
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
