Add Printer Wizard Printer Browse List Not in Alphabetical Order

SYMPTOMS

The list of printers attached to a print server in the Add Printer wizard may not appear in alphabetical order.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the printers are displayed in the same order in which they are received in response to the remote procedure call (RPC) Windows NT makes to retrieve the list of shared printers.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the following fix or wait for the next Windows NT service pack.

This fix should have the following timestamp:

   10/21/97  04:06p              96,528 winspool.drv  (Intel)
   10/21/97  04:00p             163,088 winspool.drv  (Alpha)

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression-tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem.
