  • Microsoft Windows NT Server versions 3.5, 3.51, and 4.0

SUMMARY

If administrative shares are removed from a computer running Microsoft Windows NT version 3.5 or later (administrative shares could not be permanently deleted in Microsoft Windows NT version 3.1), they can be re-created by either of the following methods:

  • Type the following commands from a command prompt:

          net share admin$
          net share c$=c:\

    -or-

  • If you run Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0 (Workstation or Server), you can also use System Policy Editor (Poledit.exe) to specify “Create hidden drive shares” under the following directory tree:

Computer\Windows NT Network\Sharing\Create hidden drive shares

The newly created shares will behave as standard administrative shares. For example, you will be unable to configure permissions on them.
