SYMPTOMSWhen you try to access Internet resources using a SLIP (Serial Line Internet Protocol) account with Windows NT version 4.0 Dial-Up Networking, you may receive error messages similar to the following message:
Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site http://<web address> The site was not found. Make sure the address is correct, and try again.NOTE: The error message you receive may differ depending on the program you are using to access the Internet resource.
CAUSEThis issue may be caused by one of the following situations:
RESOLUTIONTo work around this issue use one of the following methods:
Name Server Address Specified in Phonebook Entry
Force IP Header Compression Option Enabled
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
