The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows NT Server version 4.0

SYMPTOMS

If you have a server with more than eight network interfaces installed and you use the Network Segment object in Performance Monitor to monitor all your network interfaces, you are only able to monitor the first eight bound interfaces.

CAUSE

There is a hard-coded limit of eight supported Network Segment interfaces in the Netmon performance counter DLL.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the following fix or wait for the next Windows NT service pack.

This fix should have the following time stamp:

   09/16/97 04:50 12,048 Bhmon.dll (Intel)
   09/16/97 04:48 22,288 Bhmon.dll (Alpha)

NOTE: This hotfix supports monitoring a maximum of 16 interfaces on one computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression-tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix.
