The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSYour Domain Name System (DNS) service will not start, and it causes an access violation (AV) in DNS Manager.
CAUSEZone files that are exact multiples of 4 KB in length will cause an access violation in DNS Manager.
RESOLUTIONAs a temporary workaround, you can add a comment to your zone file so that its size is not a multiple of 4 KB. To permanently fix this problem, apply Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 2 or later.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. This problem was corrected in the latest Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 U.S. Service Pack. For information on obtaining the service pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):
