Running Multiple Instances of an Application Causes STOP x50

SYMPTOMS

Running several instances of an application on a multiprocessor computer may cause Windows NT to stop responding (hang) while displaying the following error message on a blue screen:

   STOP 0x00000050

CAUSE

In rare circumstances and only on multiple processor computers, the printer driver is unloaded.

RESOLUTION

Obtain the following fix or wait for the next Windows NT service pack.

This fix should have the following time stamp:

   11/10/97  11:07a               331,024 User32.dll (Intel)
   11/10/97  01:21p             1,236,240 Win32k.sys (Intel)

   11/07/97  04:50p               579,344 User32.dll (Alpha)
   11/10/97  01:18p             2,047,856 Win32k.sys (Alpha)

NOTE: Service Pack 3 must be applied to Windows NT 4.0 prior to applying this fix.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix. Contact Microsoft Technical Support for more information.
