The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you attempt to connect to a share, you may receive a message from the server stating there is not enough resources or memory to process the command. Also, Event ID 2018 may appear in the event log. Analysis shows that the paged pool is not overused and the error looks incorrect. This problem most likely occurs on multiprocessor computers.
CAUSEWindows NT does not maintain the memory usage counters properly. Operations on the counters are not "atomic" while running on multiprocessor systems.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, obtain the following fix or wait for the next Windows NT service pack. This fix should have the following time stamp:
11/13/97 2:43 229,680 Srv.sys (Intel) 11/13/97 2:41 466,064 Srv.sys (Alpha) STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix.
