The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSA multiprocessor computer booting Windows NT may experience a STOP 0x0000001E error in Win32k.sys.
CAUSEThis problem occurs because Win32k.sys may improperly handle mouse movements, which causes an access violation.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, obtain the following fix or wait for the next Windows NT service pack. This fix should have the following time stamp:
11/13/97 08:26p 323,344 User32.dll (Intel) 11/20/97 08:10p 1,236,304 Win32k.sys (Intel) 11/13/97 08:24p 579,344 User32.dll (Alpha) 11/20/97 08:08p 2,047,952 Win32k.sys (Alpha) STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix.
