Cannot Run MS-DOS Application from Shortcut

SYMPTOMS

MS-DOS application shortcuts will not work if the policy "Run only allowed Windows applications" is enabled with that specific .exe targeted in that shortcut.

RESOLUTION

  1. Create a batch file that contains the path to the MS-DOS executable application that you want to run.

  2. Make sure that the MS-DOS application and the batch file are allowed to run through the policy.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
