SYMPTOMSWhen you make a backup using Windows NT Backup (Ntbackup.exe) on an Eastern European or Russian version of Windows NT 4.0, several truncated lines appear at the end of the backup log.
CAUSEThere is a problem in Windows NT Backup that causes it to truncate the log when an extended character is encountered. This problem has been specifically observed in the Eastern European and Russian versions of Windows NT 4.0 and may occur in other localized versions that use multibyte character sets.
RESOLUTIONApply the hotfix mentioned below.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. This problem was corrected in the latest Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 U.S. Service Pack. For information on obtaining the service pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):
