SYMPTOMSWhen you shut down your computer running Microsoft Windows NT, one of the following symptoms may occur:
CAUSESome services do not notify the Service Control Manager when they have received a shutdown message during system shutdown. As a result, the Service Control Manager stops responding (hangs) while waiting for the service and will be shut down itself by the operating system during system shutdown. In turn, shutdown messages are not sent to the remaining services.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix.
